B. P. Srivastava was born on July 10, 1946, in Village Khandhara Pandey Pur, District Buxar (Bihar) to Late Shri Baldev Lal, who was a government teacher. B. P. Srivastava served in the Government of India for over 44 years, of which 10 years were in the Indian Navy (1962–1973). He participated in both the 1965 and 1971 wars with Pakistan and received medals.

          On retirement from the Indian Navy, he got another job in a reputed Central Government organization, where he worked till his retirement on July 31, 2006. During his lifetime he worked with complete honesty and dedication, but always had to face very difficult circumstances. He has 2 sons and 5 daughters, but unfortunately, his youngest son died in the year 2000 at the age of 25 and this incident caused him immense emotional pain. The time from 1977 to 2000 was the worst period of his life. Although he is not a professional writer, he is an avid writer who incorporates his experiences and emotions in such an intense manner that one can easily relate the book written by him to his own life.
